A Turducken
is a de-boned turkey stuffed with a de-boned duck, which
itself is stuffed with a small de-boned chicken. The
name Turducken
is a mixture of those ingredients, turkey, duck, and
chicken. The cavity of the chicken and the rest of the
gaps are filled with, at the very least, a highly
seasoned breadcrumb mixture or sausage meat, although
some versions have a different stuffing for each bird.
According to National Geographic, the
Turduckens
was
invented in 1985, by brothers Sammy and Junior Hebert at
their family meat market in Maurice, La. The tradition
has grown and now each year, the Hebert stores (one in
Maurice, three in Houston and one in Tulsa, Okla.) sell
over 10,000 turduckens.
